The Griffon Has Landed

It has been nearly ten weeks since our last blog entry. Since that post, our lives have been a whirlwind of events. From our Grand Opening to Ribbon Cutting, two careers of 25+ years to lots of high school activities, it has been a test of physical and mental endurance as we add "business owners" to our resumes. Despite the hectic nature of our schedules while we try to strike a balance between these new facets of our lives, it has been an amazing journey thus far. We wanted to take this opportunity to talk a bit about what's new at GriffoNest Games, as well as the games we have been regularly implementing.

What's New?

Star Wars Day

We LOVE The Mandalorian.

With the launch of Disney+ and The Mandalorian, along with the approaching release of Episode IX, we want to tap into everyone's inner Jedi (or Sith, we don't judge) by hosting Star Wars open gaming on Saturdays, starting at 2:00 PM. We hope to have Legions, Destiny, and X-Wing hitting the tables. For those wanting to learn these games, demos are available. For those looking for other players, we already have several interested parties for each of these games. First Star Wars Day is Saturday, November 23rd.

Pokémon League

Saturdays at noon until 2:00 PM, we will have casual Pokemon League. Per pokemon.com: A Pokémon League provides a nearby place for you to get together with other fans of both the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the Pokémon video games, and have some fun. Using your own cards and Pokémon video games, you can play, trade, and even earn cool prizes! The best part is that you can do all this with other Pokémon players who love collecting and playing just as much as you do.

Next Pokémon League is Saturday, November 23rd.

Tolarian Academy

On Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 PM until 5:30 PM, learn to play Magic: The Gathering. Free introductory decks are available for new players. If you are just starting this game or improving your knowledge about it, we will teach you the basics of this awesome game. First meeting is November 19th.

Brawl

Magic: The Gathering Brawl has moved to every other Tuesday. Players who expressed interest had conflicts with Brawl's former time slot on Saturday. We are hoping that the Tuesday 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM session will be a better fit. Brawl is a really fun format with lots of creative possibilities. Plus, there are prizes. Next meeting is November 19th.

What else has been going on?

Friday Night Magic

We have a booster draft every Friday at 6:30 PM. Presently, we have been drafting Throne of Eldraine. We also have Pioneer constructed each Friday at 7:00 PM.

Commander League

Each Thursday, Magic's popular casual Commander format occurs from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. We are presently wrapping up a four week session. Next league will start in December. There is always room for casual Commander players on most nights of the week.

Pathfinder Society

Every other Wednesday, we have two 2nd Edition Society groups that meet at 6:00 PM. There is still space available and the characters are presently level 1. The adventures have been from the Year of the Open Road. Next meeting is November 20th.

Pathfinder Adventure Card Guild

Every other Wednesday opposite of our Pathfinder Society, we run Pathfinder Adventure Card Guild at 7:00 PM. We presently have two groups that are playing Season of the Righteous and Season of Tapestry's Tides. Plenty of space is available and we have multiple class decks on hand. Next meeting is November 27th.

Starfinder Society

Every other Monday, we meet for Starfinder Society at 7:00 PM. There is still space available and the characters are presently level 1. The adventures have been from the Year of the Scoured Stars. Next meeting is November 25th.

Warhammer 40K

Each Sunday at 1:00 PM, we host a casual game of Warhammer 40K. Typically, each player brings a 1,000 point army and joins together with another player. They are always looking for new players and are willing to teach the game.

Within the Warhammer realm, we are also looking to run some Kill Team and Underworlds. We have players for each of these things. Simply a matter of finding a good time for players to meet.

Game Night

Every Saturday night starting at 6:00 PM, people purchase or bring in games. Gamers come in and play them. This is a great way to meet gamers from Woodstock and the surrounding areas. It is also a great way to experience great new games.

Dungeons & Dragons

Every other Tuesday, the "New Haven" group explores a sandbox style campaign using 5E rules. This group is presently looking for an additional Dungeon Master and more players. Next meeting is November 26th.

Also, we presently have three youth D&D groups with 5-6 players in each. We are about to start our 4th group - this one of adventurers ages 8-10. There is still space for this one. Please contact GriffoNest Games for more information.

Thank you to everyone who has come out to support our store. It has been a great first ten weeks. If you have not been out to visit us yet, we hope you will stop by to check us out. It is our firm belief that we have a game for everyone. If you have not been in for a while, we are constantly updating our inventory with the hottest new games. Whatever the case, we hope to see you all soon!
